Low Voltage Variable Speed Drives

Low Voltage Variable Speed Drives

At its core, a variable speed drive (VSD) is designed to let you adjust the speed and torque of an electric motor by varying it’s frequency and voltage. VSD’s in the low-voltage range, are usually rated 240V / 415V / 690V / 1000V.

Such flexibility opens up a lot of options. You can slow processes down to reduce wear and tear, ramp things up when output demands it, or control acceleration and deceleration to protect mechanical components or items in a production line. In industries where uptime matters, a VSD that’s set up right can mean fewer unexpected failures, smoother production, and lower power bills.

Unsure about whether a low-voltage VSD fits the needs of your application or industry? Reach out to our team today for more information on our VSD solutions and how they can help you meet your application requirements.

Currently, we stock an extensive range of low-voltage VSD’s that are ready for immediate delivery. Our range includes:

Each low-voltage VSD has its
specific place depending on the required control functions and physical design, where it’s going, what motor it’s driving, and what environmental conditions it’ll face. Likewise, each VSD is also designed to complement our broader catalogue of products, including drives and automation equipment, soft starters, and more.

If you need help selecting the right low-voltage VSD for your application or industry needs,  contact us or send us an enquiry via email at Marketing@teco.com.au.

Low-voltage VSDs are used in just about every industry, including:

  • Manufacturing and processing plants that run conveyors, mixers, feeders, and extrusion equipment.
  • HVAC systems to adjust fan speeds in ventilation and air conditioning setups.
  • Water and wastewater facilities to control pumps for efficiency and flow stability.
  • Mining and quarries that operate crushers, conveyors, and dewatering pumps.
  • Food and beverage operations that need to maintain steady production speeds with flexibility for different products and safety standards.
  • Agricultural operations to power irrigation pumps and feed systems.

The common thread? Anywhere you need reliable motor control with efficiency in mind, a low-voltage VSD can usually be configured to do the job.

Selecting the right low-voltage VSD involves more than just picking the one with the right voltage. Several other key considerations need to be considered.

  1. First, match the VSD to the motor’s rated current and not just on kW rating alone.
  2. Second, determine whether the application load is constant torque, like a conveyor or variable torque, like a centrifugal pump or fan.
  3. Third, consider environmental factors like temperature, humidity, vibration, and what ingress protection rating is required, with IP20 these are suitable for installation in cabinets located in clean control rooms and IP55 or IP66 for dusty, wet, or outdoor locations.
  4. Fourth, decide if you need basic start/stop and speed control or advanced functions such as PID control for process systems and which communication protocols are required.
  5. Fifth, consider what type of motor will be required, to ensure the correct type of VSD is chosen.
