TECO TSXi-1200V Soft Starter

TECO TSXi-1200V Soft Starter

Engineered high-power motor control for 1000V systems | 202-1092 A | up to 1320VAC

The TECO TSXi-1200V is a three-phase soft starter designed specifically for motors operating up to 1320VAC, covering current ratings from 202 to 1092 A. It is not a conventional low-voltage soft starter pushed into a higher-voltage duty. It is a dedicated 1000V platform engineered from the outset for the demands of 1000V industrial power systems.

In mining, mineral processing and underground applications, safety and reliability are not optional – they are mandatory. Unplanned downtime is unacceptable when the connected asset is a dewatering pump, conveyor, crusher, mill or main life critical ventilation fan. The TSXi-1200V addresses those concerns with controlled management, adaptive acceleration and stopping, comprehensive protection and a serviceable engineered architecture suited to critical-duty motor systems.

The TSXi-1200V can be positioned as a scaled-down 2.3kV medium-voltage soft starter, built using medium-voltage power-stack design philosophy and component practices rather than conventional low-voltage compromises. That gives the platform materially higher design margin than a standard LV product while still retaining the relative simplicity of low-voltage installation, control wiring and programming.

The installation architecture reflects the nature of the product. The TSXi-1200V requires an external bypass contactor and main switching device, the correct approach for a reliable, serviceable motor control system at 1000V. It is designed for engineered switchboards and MCC installations, not standard MCC retrofits.

  • Three-phase SCR control purpose-built for 1200 VAC operation
  • Platform philosophy derived from medium-voltage soft-starter power-stack design
  • External bypass contactor and main switching device required – engineered installation architecture
  • Full adaptive control start – acceleration profile managed dynamically to actual load behaviour
  • Adaptive stop – deceleration profile managed dynamically for pipeline and process stability
  • Power through – 2 phase control if 1 phase is shorted
  • DC Brake and Soft Brake
  • Comprehensive dual order thermal motor modelling with configurable protection responses – trip, soft trip, warning or log
  • Voltage monitoring functions
  • Ground fault monitoring available via optional expansion module with harmonic desensitisation
  • AC53 utilisation rated
  • 384-event log with real-time clock timestamps
  • USB diagnostics and firmware update
  • Optional fieldbus expansion – Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, DeviceNet
  • Smart Card expansion – pump application module available
  • Modular design to support practical phase, control or power-board level maintenance
  • Emergency Run / fire pump mode configurable via programmable input
  • IEC and NEMA ratings provided
  • Purpose-built for 1000V – the scaled down SCR power section, thermal design and protection architecture are matched to the demands of elevated-voltage industrial installations, not stretched from a 690V platform.
  • In underground and mining environments, the platform is built around the two issues that matter most: safety and continuity of production. Controlled starting and stopping reduce mechanical shock, lower stress on connected equipment and help avoid avoidable downtime events.
  • The TSXi-1200V carries a design philosophy closer to a 2.3kV medium-voltage soft starter than a conventional low-voltage product. With MV-oriented power-stack engineering and component selection, the design margin is materially higher than standard LV platforms while retaining low-voltage-style setup and commissioning simplicity.
  • Ground fault monitoring via optional expansion module provides an important protection layer in wet, dusty or underground environments where insulation degradation is a real operating risk. The module offers adjustable pickup values and trip delays, while harmonic desensitisation in the software reduces nuisance tripping caused by harmonic interference on the network.
  • Configurable protection responses – trip, soft trip, warning or log – allow maintenance teams to manage critical assets proportionately. A first-event current imbalance on a critical pump does not have to force a hard trip if the operational priority is to keep the process running until a planned shutdown.
  • Power-through capability provides a practical continuity-of-operation advantage. In the event of an SCR short-circuit fault, the soft starter can trip and reset, then continue operating in two-phase control while issuing a maintenance warning so service can be scheduled at a convenient outage rather than at the moment of failure.
  • The modular design supports maintainability in the field. Single-phase assemblies, control boards or power boards can be serviced with common site tools, reducing repair complexity and helping sites restore readiness faster.
  • Emergency Run / fire pump mode gives sites a simple way to prioritise life-critical operation. Programmed through a configurable input, the starter operates normally until a qualifying fault condition occurs, then continues to soft start and run the motor in a keep-running mode until an intentional stop command is given.
  • Adaptive Control manages acceleration to actual load conditions at startup – in a crusher starting under residual feed load, or a large pump starting against a partially closed valve, controlled torque transfer throughout the acceleration sequence protects the drivetrain and reduces mechanical stress on connected equipment.
  • Adaptive stopping maintains pipeline pressure stability in large pumping systems, managing the deceleration rate dynamically rather than applying a fixed ramp that assumes ideal conditions.
  • DC Brake and Soft Brake provide active stopping capability where natural coast-down time is a process or safety consideration – large ventilation fans, heavy conveyors and crushers where stopping time affects productivity.
  • 384-event log with real-time clock timestamps supports post-event root cause analysis – understanding the sequence of electrical and mechanical conditions that preceded a trip, not just that a trip occurred.
  • Fieldbus integration connects the TSXi-1200V into existing PLC and SCADA architectures where remote monitoring and control of critical motor assets is a site requirement.
  • Smart Card pump module extends capability to application-specific pumping logic without PLC programming – pump clean functions, calendar-based scheduling and dedicated pumping protections.
  • Large pumping systems, bore pumps and mine dewatering systems where controlled starting and adaptive stopping protect pipelines, pump casings and mechanical seals across high-cycle duty.
  • Crushers – cone, jaw and rotary – where high-inertia loads require adaptive acceleration to manage drivetrain stress at startup and active braking to reduce stopping time.
  • Mills – ball, hammer and roller – where controlled torque transfer during startup protects the drivetrain and reduces mechanical shock on large rotating assemblies.
  • Heavy conveyors – longwall and overland belt systems – where gradual torque application at startup protects belts and mechanical drive components under full load.
  • High-power compressors where controlled starting limits electrical disturbance on the 1000V network and reduces mechanical loading during engagement.
  • Ventilation fans in mining and tunnelling operations where smooth acceleration protects large impeller and bearing assemblies and reduces structural stress on the fan installation.
  • Underground emergency and life-safety pumping duties where Emergency Run functionality may be required as part of the overall control philosophy.
